✈️ Delayed Baggage
If your baggage hasn't arrived at your final destination, you have the right to have necessary purchases reimbursed, such as clothes, toiletries, and other items you need until your suitcase appears. Save all receipts and notify the airline as soon as possible. In some cases, you should report the delay at the airport immediately upon arrival, often at a "lost & found" desk.
You usually have up to 21 days to submit a written claim for compensation for delayed baggage. The maximum compensation amount according to the Montreal Convention is approximately 1,500 euros, but it can vary depending on currency and situation. Remember that you must show what you purchased and that it was necessary given the circumstances.
 Lost Baggage
If your baggage still hasn't been found after 21 days, it is considered lost. Then you have the right to compensation for the value of your items. You must then be able to show what was in the suitcase, so a tip is to always take a photo of the suitcase's contents before you travel. The airline may request receipts for more expensive items, but generally they are obliged to replace reasonable contents up to approximately the same limit as for delays (about 1,500 euros).
If the baggage was lost on a round-trip journey, the responsibility lies with the airline that handled the leg when it disappeared. You should then direct your claim directly to that airline. It is important that you report the loss as soon as possible, preferably within 7 days.
⚠️ Things to remember:
- Report delay or loss directly at the airport if possible
- Ask for a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) from the airline
- Save all receipts for emergency purchases
- Keep important items such as medicines and valuables in your hand luggage
- Document what you had in your suitcase, preferably before the trip
We at AirClaimer help you figure out what you are entitled to and ensure that your claim is submitted correctly. You don't need to spend time and energy thinking about formulations, rules, or contact with the airline – we take care of it for you.
